Following recent volcanic activity of Mount Agung which located in Karang Asem regency, northern east of Bali island, the Centre for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation ( PVMBG ) has recorded a strombolian eruption on Monday, 2 July 2018 at 9.04 PM. Strombolian type eruption is a relatively mild blast ejecting lava crust in the form of incandescent pumice rock which apparently caused the forest burning of about 2 KM surrounding mount Agung crater yesterday evening. The forest burning has now stopped with wind blowing in westward direction.
In regard to the airport situation, volcanic ashes has not been detected above the airspace of the southern side of the island therefore it does not impact the Bali International airport and is still operating as normal.
The alert level for the mount Agung volcano is remained on level three ( level 3 ) with exclusion zone or the red zone of 4 KM radius from the crater. The distance between Mount Agung to the capital of Bali is about 70 KM while to the other tourism popular areas are between 60 – 80 KM. Officials advise that people in South Bali, an area some 60-70 Kilometers from the volcano are in no direct threat from the Volcano eruption.
